As with any small dog it is best to train with love then punishment, as they get
hurt faster, then become nasty in order to defend them self's. Check out:

They can not be left alone for long periods of time, all the time, as they need to be
with the family to develop into the Cavalier King Charles they are to be.

They have no fear of there surroundings, so they should not be left alone
unsupervised. As they grow up they really don't loose the "no fear" of things, so
it is wise to have a room that they can be put in when you are not home, or a
crate or play pen. We use crates with there favorite sleeping buddies (Safe Stuffed
animals).
And Don't leave them outside alone with out being able to see them as they are in
danger of being taken. They will go with anyone as they think everyone is there
best friend.

What kind of grooming is necessary for Cavaliers?
The Cavalier does require regular grooming. A great deal of time and effort is not
necessary if the dog is brushed and combed thoroughly at least once or twice a
week. Cavaliers do shed, particularly in spring and fall, but a little all the time.
Nails should be clipped and the hair between the pads trimmed. No other
trimming is necessary (or allowed) in the show ring. The ideal brushes to use are
the softer slicker brushes or a pin brush (not nylon or plastic) and a metal comb.
Knots and tangles are kept to a minimum if the Cavalier is free of parasites and is
combed regularly. Brush out all knots and tangles before bathing.
Cavaliers are naturally clean dogs. Too much bathing dries out the skin and
hair coat so try not bathe more than once a week. Don't use human shampoo on
dogs. Rinse thoroughly. A human blow dryer (not on hot) and brushing at the
same time works well for drying. Keep blower moving so any one spot does not
get overheated.

Commercial preparations are made that will help remove tear stains under the
eyes. Keep eyes clean and dry.
A Must: keep care with ears so no water gets in side them.

We recommend you buy a book on "Cavalier King Charles Spaniels" before you
get one, just to see how to raise and take care of theses little angels.

A Cavalier is like an eternal Peter Pan, a child who never grows old
and who therefore is always available to love and be loved."
